Brazilian planemaker Embraer, the world\u2019s biggest maker of regional jets, says it is optimistic that a US government led by Donald Trump will still grant it the clearances needed to sell aircraft to Iran.
\nWhile Airbus and Boeing have already sealed deals to supply a range of jetliners to Iran after obtaining licenses under the previous administration, Embraer is in the final stages of order talks, chief executive officer Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva said in an interview, as reported by the Middle East North Africa Financial Network.
\n\u201cThere is a lot of uncertainty now regarding this new administration,\u201d Silva said last week at the World Economic Forum in Davos. \u201cBut I believe in general terms Mr. Trump is a businessman. He is very pragmatic and he is for business. So we hope things won\u2019t change too much.\u201d
\nThe US is potentially able to block plane exports to Iran from foreign manufacturers even after the easing of international sanctions because of the high American content of most aircraft.
\nEmbraer\u2019s current models use General Electric Company engines, while Pratt & Whitney power plants will feature on new versions.
\nEmbraer is aiming to meet Iran\u2019s requirement for jets with 130 seats or fewer after Airbus won orders for 98 bigger aircraft and Boeing secured a deal for 80.
\nIran is looking to take at least 20 E195 jets worth more than $1 billion at list prices, senior Brazilian officials said last year. Silva did not specify how many orders his company is targeting.
\nSilva said Embraer\u2019s decision last week to start a road show ahead of the possible sale of 10-year, dollar-denominated bonds reflects a window of opportunity presented by a very liquid market, while declining to provide further details of the sale.
\nSilva said the worst might also be over for Brazil\u2019s wider economy following an 8% contraction in the past 2 1\/2 years.
\n\u201cPresident Michel Temer, who took over after Dilma Rousseff\u2019s impeachment, is taking the right steps, with lower inflation and a drop in interest rates suggesting the recovery process is going forward,\u201d he said.
